I also think that, no matter how much they tried, their relationship wouldn’t have a happy ending. This song and its melancholic tone represent that not so good side of them.

Morgana is a troubled young woman and feels that vulnerability will lead to heartache, so she locks her heart away. I imagine that Morgana would be the one holding back from the relationship and that Gwaine would try to break her shell.
